Preparing Before Your Fotoshoot
We like to say that your photoshoot starts the moment you make your booking. From now until the day of your session, every little thing you do — from choosing what to wear to how you take care of yourself — helps shape the experience and the final result.
This guide walks you through a few simple things you can do before your shoot to feel comfortable, confident, and totally ready when you step in front of the camera.
1. Think about your vision
Before the day comes, spend a few minutes imagining what kind of photos you’d like to take. Do you want them to feel natural and candid, polished and professional, or creative and bold?
There’s no right or wrong — it’s simply about what you want to express and how you want to show up.
You might even want to gather a little inspiration. Clip photos or poses from magazines, or create a moodboard online using Pinterest — it’s a fun way to explore ideas and notice what styles, expressions, or moods you’re drawn to.
2. Plan your wardrobe
Choose outfits that make you feel like you. Confidence always photographs better than perfection.
A few helpful tips:
Go for neutral or solid colors that don’t steal attention from your face.
Avoid bright neons, shiny fabrics, or loud patterns unless they truly fit your style.
If you’re photographing with others, coordinate colors rather than matching exactly — think tones that complement each other.
Bring 2–3 outfit options so you can play around once you’re here.
Make sure everything is wrinkle-free and ready to wear — a quick steam or iron makes a big difference.
4. Personal touches
If you’d like to bring something meaningful — a hat, book, musical instrument, or accessory that reflects your personality — go for it. Small personal details can help your photos feel more “you.”
3. Grooming and self-care
A few small things can go a long way in helping you feel and look your best:
Hair: If you need a cut or color refresh, do it about a week before your shoot.
Skin: Stay hydrated and get some rest in the days leading up to your session. Avoid trying new skincare or makeup products right before.
Makeup: Keep it simple and natural unless you’re going for a specific style. Neutral tones usually photograph best.
Facial hair: Trim or shave a couple of days before to let your skin settle.
Nails: Clean or freshly polished nails are a small touch that makes photos look extra polished.
5. Get comfortable in front of the mirror
Because you’ll be taking the photos yourself, it can be helpful to spend a few minutes practicing. Try standing in front of a mirror at home, adjusting your posture, or experimenting with facial expressions. You don’t need to “pose” — just get a feel for what feels natural and confident.
6. Give yourself a calm start
On the day of your shoot, try to give yourself a little extra time so you don’t feel rushed. Arriving relaxed makes a big difference in how your photos feel.
Your photoshoot officially starts at the time of your booking — but we welcome you (and recommend that you come) about 20–30 minutes earlier. There’s space for you to land before your creativity takes off.
